Lefeber Turf Farm FAQ’s
Q. Do I need to order sod in advance?
A. Yes, for pick up orders - you need to order before 2pm the day prior. For delivery orders, please allow a minimum of 2-3 business days, depending on availability.
Q. How many square feet are in a pallet or roll of sod?
1 Pallet = 480 SqFt = 60 Rolls
1 Roll = 2ft x 4ft = 8 SqFt
Q. How heavy is a pallet of sod?
A. 1 Pallet = About 3000-3500 lbs. In wetter months, it’s heavier; drier months, it’s lighter. 1 Roll is usually about 40 lbs.
Q. Can I install turf in hot or cold weather?
A. Yes, sod can be installed almost year-round in the Pacific Northwest. In hotter weather, stage it in the shade if possible, lay it promptly, and water generously. If you’re unable to install the sod immediately, call & order it for a day when you can have it laid in a timely manner. During winter months, sod can still be laid. It will likely be dormant, so you’ll see the growth begin around springtime. Note: Sod is more perishable in summer when it’s hotter, than in fall and winter when it’s cooler.
Q. Does Lefeber Turf farm install sod?
A. We do not install sod, blocks, or pavers. We would be happy to provide you with contact information from our local landscapers who would be happy to assist you.
Q. Do you warranty your turf (sod)?
A. We guarantee you will receive healthy, fresh sod upon pick up or delivery. It is the customer’s responsibility to attend to prompt installation and thorough watering. Transplanted sod has an extremely high success rate when cared for properly. With proper tending, we are confident you will be happy with your new sod lawn.
Q. How long can sod sit before installing?
A. You should install your sod right away, the same day it’s picked up or delivered. Note: Sod is more perishable in summer when it’s hotter, than in fall and winter when it’s cooler
Q. Can you deliver to a specific spot on my site?
A. Yes, we have a forklift that can navigate and drop the pallets where you need, within a reasonable distance of truck access. Please note, if onsite conditions are unsuitable for our machines, we will only be able to provide curbside or driveway delivery. We understand each project is unique, please call to inquire about delivery to your jobsite.
Q. How much should I water my sod?
A. As soon as you install sod, begin watering immediately! Let it soak in about 6 to 8 inches, about 1 inch of water. Do not let it dry out. In the summer, sod is very perishable. It has no root system yet. During fall and winter, if there is sufficient rainfall, additional watering may not be needed. Observe your lawn and supplement watering accordingly. See more care instructions on our New Sod Care Page
Q. Should I put fertilizer down before the sod?
A. No, you should not apply fertilizer. Wait to use fertilizer until after the first mowing.
The first mowing is one month after installing new sod.
Q. What is the pallet deposit for?
A. Our pallets are built specifically for our sod and blocks. They are stamped with our business name, or one of our vendor names. We invest and reuse these pallets to transport our products, so we kindly ask that you return them to us when you are finished with your project. Receipts are required for pallet returns, unless you have established an account with us.
